The study of the trace metals and heavy metals present in the Ennore ecosystem plays a vital role in determining the extent of pollution in the study area. In the present study results showed that higher level of heavy metal concentration in the water, sediments and fish tissues, has a high potential to concentrate heavy metals like Cd, Hg, Pb and Cr though the observedconcentrations are above the permissible limits except two metals (Cu and Zn) are within the permissible limits. Based on these results there is serious heavy metal pollution in the Ennore mangrove ecosystem. There is an urgent need to control the industrial pollution and save the above water bodies for the welfare of the present and future generations.
